Только ради флирта

Announcement: Just Flirting

The international creative association TEATRO FABRICA opens a new season on July 15 at 19:30 in the Small Hall of the Dzintari Concert Hall in Jurmala. Two premieres will take place at once, based on French musical and film culture: a concert, Just Flirting, inspired by French music of the 60-70s of the 20th century in the style of pop, garage rock, psychedelic rock, chanson and the screening of a short film directed by Maria de Valukhoff On one breath, filmed in Riga based on the short story The Marseille Ghost by Jean Cocteau. Popular Latvian actors Rihards Lepers and Maksim Busel, as well as Maria de Valukhoff, accompanied by the beat quartet The Croissants, will appear in the lead roles both on the movie screen and on the stage. The musical repertoire is based on the legendary compositions of Jacques Dutronc, Serge Gainsbourg, Françoise Hardy, Richard Anthony and other French musicians and actors of the XX century’s 60s-70s. The author of this unique program was Maria de Valukhoff, known to the Latvian public for her theater projects The Queen of Spades and Yokko the White Butterfly. What will unite these two premieres? Innovation, courage, freedom. Both in music and on the movie screen, the viewer will see new approaches to art, rethought under the influence of the great reformers of the 20th century – Jean Cocteau, Jean Luc Godard, Rainer Werner Fassbinder. The musical program continues and complements the story that is told in the film On one breath. The authors of the project will recreate in the language of music and cinema a complete picture of that era, which was a harbinger of modernity.

The Park Hotel Kemeri has been chosen as the venue for Yokko the White Butterfly, a unique performance

The venue for the opera ballet Yokko the White Butterfly staged by director Maria de Valukhoff will be the public areas on the ground floor of the historic Kemeri hotel. The long and very impressive white building built in 1936 by one of the main Latvian architects Eižens Laube (1880-1967) without exaggeration was and still is the pride of Latvia and even received the unofficial title of “the most beautiful building in Latvia”. Today it is mothballed and, following the beautiful park of the Kemeri resort, is awaiting the continuation of a careful restoration and a new round of its history.

The solemn neoclassical interiors of public areas will become an unexpected and contrasting background for the conceptual syncretic production directed by Maria de Valukhoff. Spectators of the opera by the composer Vitaly Galutva, based on the erotic tanka cycle of the medieval Japanese poetess Yokko Irinati, will have a rare opportunity to see the extant hotel historical interiors, hidden from visitors in recent decades. The stage space of the performance is decorated in form of Japanese garden with huge blooming chrysanthemums, and it is harmoniously combined with the hotel building and its newly restored park outside.

Almost immediately after its opening, the Kemeri Palace attracted a large number of creative people. Amateur and semi-professional performances were staged here, concerts were held, and in the summer of 1937 an international chess tournament was organised with the participation of the legendary Alexander Alekhine and other grandmasters. Just before the war in 1941, Soviet cinema stars actress Lyubov Orlova and her husband director Grigory Alexandrov rested in Kemeri. The project Yoko the White Butterfly that has been implemented with the support of the Teatro Fabrica association also aims to revive lost traditions and draw additional attention to one of the most important objects of Latvia’s cultural heritage.
